South Africa

Fantastic Trophies & Great Infrastructure —

— South Africa’s climate is generally sunny and pleasant. Winters are cool and mild, although snowfalls in mountain ranges and sub-zero temperatures are not uncommon. October to March can be warm to extremely hot (up to 40°C)

Our Areas

Our hunting blocks differ from 5 000 to 50 000 acres in size, which for South African terms will still give you as much of a fair chase hunting as can be found in the country. We can arrange hunting in all parts of South Africa from the Limpopo Province to the Eastern Cape, to give you the opportunity of hunting any species available in South Africa. We do conduct hunts in some areas on Private Game Reserves or Government Reserves from time to time. We do have areas in South Africa where we hunt on totally “open areas”, meaning NO HIGH fences.

Hunting Season

The hunting season in South Africa is open all year round, but hunting can be restricted in certain times of the year due to rainfall seasons of South Africa.

Health and Safety

Fully equipped medical kits and telephone or radio communication are available in case of an emergency. Some areas in South Africa are malaria areas – consult your doctor or Outfitter and take the necessary precautions. Always carry travel documents, traveller’s cheques and cash on your person or ask the outfitter to keep it in safe custody.

Travelling, Accommodation and Meals

We will make provision for all accommodation and travel expenses before and after your safari. Upon your arrival in South Africa, you will be welcomed by our staff at the nearest port of entry to the hunting area and transported to the camp/lodge by either air charter or ground transport. Depending on the required species and hunting areas, you will be based in a serviced grass-thatched lodge or tented camp. Linen and basic toiletries are provided. All meals, drinks and a laundry service are provided.

Customs, Visas and Insurance

Customs clearance is operative at your port of entry in South Africa. South Africa requires a passport valid at least 6 months beyond your departure date and depending on your country of origin, a visa. Insurance for personal effects, luggage and trip cancellation as well as medical air evacuation is strongly recommended.

Currency and Spending Money

Cash is preferred, but we welcome Electronic Transfers to our USA account as well. It is customary to tip staff in recognition of good service. In cash. The government levies are 15% Value Added Tax on all non-export items, i.e. charters, accommodation, car hire, etc.

Arms and Ammunition

An import/export permit is required for South Africa (SAP 520 form), which is obtainable from the South African Police at customs at your port of entry. Assistance with permits is available at a nominal fee. Any rifle, shotgun and ammunition may be imported/exported into South Africa. Semi-automatic rifles and handguns may be imported/exported with special provisions (consult your Outfitter upon booking of your safari).

Packing, Dipping and Shipping of Trophies

An import and export CITES permit for Appendix I and an export CITES permit for Appendix II animals are required for each shipment. Field preparation of trophies are done in camp and transported to a shipping agent designated by the outfitter. Clients will be put in touch with the shipping agent to discuss their requirements to arrange for the payment of services. Clients should have sufficient trophy tags (if preferred) and full shipping instructions handy and should make sure that their skinning instructions are clearly recorded in the outfitter’s hunting register. Our company of choice is SWIFT DIP.
